Ja Morant Aggravates Shoulder Injury in Grizzlies’ Loss to Thunder

Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant appeared to worsen his lingering shoulder injury during the team’s 103-120 defeat against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The 24-year-old guard later admitted that he likely should not have played, given the discomfort he experienced throughout the game.

Despite the setback, Morant delivered a commendable performance, contributing 24 points and six assists. However, following the game, he acknowledged that playing through the injury had taken a toll on him.

“It was terrible,” Morant told reporters, as quoted by Matt Infield. “I should’ve been out, but I was out there. I’ve played like this all season, honestly, but it is what it is.”

The Grizzlies, currently holding a 38-24 record, occupy the fourth spot in the Western Conference standings. However, with the play-in positions not far behind, Morant’s ongoing health concerns could present a significant challenge for Memphis as they look to secure a strong postseason position.

Throughout the season, Morant has remained a key contributor for the Grizzlies, averaging 20.95 points, 7.37 assists, and 4.05 rebounds per game. His ability to stay on the court and perform at a high level will be critical for Memphis’ playoff aspirations.

The team has already dealt with injuries to several key players this season, making Morant’s health even more crucial as the Grizzlies push for a deep postseason run. Memphis will likely evaluate his condition closely to determine the best course of action moving forward.

If Morant’s shoulder injury persists, the team may need to consider resting him to prevent further complications. His long-term availability could make the difference between an early playoff exit and a legitimate run at the Western Conference title.

As the regular season enters its final stretch, Memphis will have to carefully manage its star point guard’s workload to ensure he is at full strength when it matters most.
