The Houston Texans have announced the release of cornerback Desmond King from their practice squad. King, who was initially cut during the 53-man roster reductions, joined the Texans’ practice squad earlier this season and played in one game for the team.
A key contributor for the Texans over the past few seasons, King had served as the team’s starting slot cornerback, including throughout the 2023 season. After being unexpectedly waived by Houston following training camp last year, King signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers but was limited to just one snap, during which he allowed a touchdown.
Subsequently, the Steelers parted ways with him, and King rejoined the Texans.
Throughout his career, the 29-year-old King has been primarily deployed as a slot cornerback and return specialist. He began his NFL career with the Los Angeles Chargers before moving around the league. While his athleticism has diminished in recent years, King will likely look to continue his career with another team.
