West Coast Star Harley Reid in Concussion Protocols After Training Incident
West Coast midfielder Harley Reid has been placed in concussion protocols following a concerning head knock during a pre-season training session earlier this week.
According to Seven News reporter Mitch Cleary, the 2023 No. 1 draft pick suffered the injury on Wednesday. The club has taken immediate precautionary measures, with the 19-year-old now under observation.
“Eagles football boss Gavin Bell confirmed, ‘Harley received a minor head knock during training, and we took precautionary measures. I’ve spoken with him today, and so has the club doctor. He is doing well, but as a precaution, he has entered the AFL concussion protocols.'”
Once Reid is cleared, he will return to non-contact training as part of the standard recovery process.
The incident occurred shortly after West Coast’s younger players returned for their first pre-season session on Monday.
Reid enjoyed a standout debut season, averaging 18.5 disposals, 4 tackles, 5 clearances, and 3.1 inside-50s across 20 games. He was also awarded the 2023 Goal of the Year. However, his eligibility for the AFL Rising Star award was revoked after a two-game suspension for a dangerous tackle in Round 12. Despite that, Reid was named the Eagles’ Best First Year Player at the club’s end-of-season awards.
