Garrett Wilson, one of the NFL’s brightest young wide receivers, has found himself mired in a frustrating situation with the New York Jets. Despite recording three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons since
being drafted in 2022, the Jets’ organizational struggles and poor quarterback play—most recently under Aaron Rodgers and Zach Wilson—have left the star wideout voicing his dissatisfaction.
“I always feel like we go out there, the vibe feels right, we’re ready to play. Then we get our *** kicked,” Wilson said recently, signaling his frustration with the team’s performance as the 2024 season winds down.
As the Los Angeles Rams consider their future, they may find Wilson to be the perfect solution to their evolving offense. With Cooper Kupp no longer the dominant player he once was, the Rams could use another elite receiver to pair with emerging star Puka Nacua. A Wilson-Nacua tandem could evoke memories of past iconic duos like Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt, or Cooper Kupp and Odell Beckham Jr., and might just drive the franchise toward its third Lombardi Trophy.
Acquiring Wilson, however, would not come cheap. The Jets are likely to demand multiple first-round picks, and any acquiring team would need to prepare a record-breaking contract extension for the talented receiver. Fortunately, Wilson’s fifth-year option would keep his extension off the books until 2027, coinciding with the likely conclusion of Kupp’s contract. The Rams have both the cap space and the draft capital to make such a move feasible.
Still, making such a bold trade would be a high-stakes gamble for Rams general manager Les Snead. A misstep could have severe consequences, potentially putting his career at risk. But given the Rams’ Super Bowl window, which aligns with the twilight years of quarterback Matthew Stafford’s career, the payoff could be monumental.
Wilson’s team-first mentality makes him an appealing target. While he has spoken out recently, his frustrations stem from enduring three years of mismanagement, which led to the firing of the Jets’ head coach and general manager, as well as his demotion following the acquisition of Davante Adams. Wilson remains a player who prioritizes winning, making him an ideal candidate to thrive in Sean McVay’s system.
With the Rams lacking other pressing needs that outweigh the potential impact of a star receiver, pursuing Wilson could be the move that defines their next era of contention. For a franchise willing to take risks for championship glory, Wilson could become the spark that reignites the Rams’ Super Bowl ambitions.
As the offseason approaches, all eyes will be on whether Los Angeles makes the bold move to bring Wilson to Hollywood and write the next chapter in its storied history.
