Former WVU Star Running Back Noel Devine to Join Rich Rodriguez’s Staff

MORGANTOWN,- In a move that’s set to excite Mountaineer fans, former West Virginia University star running back Noel Devine is joining Rich Rodriguez’s staff as an assistant coach.

According to sources within the athletic department, Devine will be working closely with Rodriguez, who was recently hired as the new head coach of the Mountaineers. Devine’s role on the staff has not been officially disclosed, but it’s expected that he’ll be involved in coaching the running backs.

Devine, a native of Fort Myers, Florida, had a storied career at WVU from 2007 to 2010. During his time as a Mountaineer, he rushed for 3,835 yards and 29 touchdowns, earning him a spot as one of the program’s all-time leading rushers.

After his collegiate career, Devine went on to play professionally in the Canadian Football League and Arena Football League. He’s since returned to Morgantown, where he’s been involved in various coaching and mentoring roles.

The hiring of Devine is seen as a major coup for Rodriguez, who’s looking to tap into the rich football tradition at WVU. By bringing on board a beloved former player like Devine, Rodriguez is sending a clear message that he’s committed to restoring the Mountaineers to their former glory.

We’re thrilled to have Noel join our staff,” Rodriguez said in a statement. “He’s a true Mountaineer legend, and his passion and knowledge of the game will be invaluable assets to our program.”

Devine’s addition to the staff is also expected to be a major recruiting boost for the Mountaineers. His reputation as one of the greatest players in program history should help attract top talent to Morgantown.

The Mountaineers are set to open their 2025 season on September 5th, and with Devine on board, fans are eagerly anticipating what promises to be an exciting new era in WVU football.
