Dodgers rookie pitcher will not participate in the rest of the season due to elbow injury
During his fourth major league start on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, rookie right-hander River Ryan of the Los Angeles Dodgers suffered an elbow injury that will keep him out of the game for the rest of the season. The details of Ryan’s injury were unknown to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts until the 25-year-old had an MRI on Sunday morning. Roberts did mention that the former two-way player, who was acquired in a deal with the San Diego Padres in March 2022, is considering Tommy John surgery. “To ascertain the precise course of action, additional scans are being awaited,” Roberts stated.
Before leaving the game on Saturday, Ryan pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings and finished the season 1-0 for the Dodgers with a 1.33 ERA. The Dodgers limited his usage in the minors to 49 appearances (45 starts) across three consecutive seasons in 2024, despite his 2.22 ERA in eight minor league starts over three different levels.
