The Dallas Mavericks have made significant offseason additions, signing Klay Thompson and Naji Marshall in free agency, leaving them with one open roster spot. While deciding how to fill that final spot, they are also working on their two-way contracts.
Dallas has announced the re-signing of Brandon Williams to a two-way contract. He had previously signed a similar deal in December of last season, where he averaged 24.1 PPG in seven games for their G-League affiliate and 3.2 PPG in mainly mop-up duty over 17 games with the Mavericks. Williams, who played college basketball at Arizona, went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft. Since then, he has played with the Westchester Knicks, College Park Skyhawks, and Osceola Magic. The Mavericks picked him after he averaged 22.4 PPG in the G-League Showcase for Osceola. While with College Park, he played alongside current Maverick A.J. Lawson.
A two-way contract allows players to split their time between the NBA and the G-League, with a limit on the number of days they can spend in the NBA. This arrangement provides teams with a better opportunity to closely monitor the development of their young players.
