The Phoenix Suns are a team to keep an eye on after the Golden State Warriors waived point guard Chris Paul. “The Suns have been connected to all kinds of guards for minimum salaries, from Kyle Lowry to Monte Morris — and even a potential reunion with Paul, should he ultimately be waived by the Warriors, according to NBA personnel,” wrote Fischer in his latest free agency analysis.
Rumors had circulated that the Warriors were exploring trade options for the 39-year-old point guard, who they acquired via trade just a summer ago. Paul was initially traded from the Suns in the Bradley Beal deal before Washington sent him to Golden State in exchange for Jordan Poole.
Last season, Paul started only 18 games, the lowest number of his career. It was anticipated that he would take a secondary role behind Klay Thompson and Steph Curry, but he struggled to make a significant impact in his limited playing time.
A potential return to Phoenix would provide a strong playmaker for the Suns’ offense, which sorely missed a true point guard last season as neither Bradley Beal nor Devin Booker excelled in that role.
With new coach Mike Budenholzer, the Suns have been reportedly searching for a point guard, though it’s unclear how such an addition would integrate into a lineup already featuring stars like Beal, Booker, and Kevin Durant. Phoenix is actively pursuing a point guard, and with Paul now available, a reunion could be in the cards.
