After exhibiting subpar performance for the majority of the season, the Chicago Cubs have been playing stronger baseball in recent weeks, which is encouraging. Although it’s not ideal that they’ve dropped two straight games, they still have a remote shot of making the postseason if they can quickly get back on track. Given that they are five games out of the Wild Card in the middle of August, it doesn’t seem likely, but far stranger things have happened.
The Cubs need to find a way to at least build some momentum heading into 2025. President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer made several trade deadline moves that improved the team for the 2025 campaign, as he had stated he would do.
“This winter, the Chicago Cubs will have enough cash off the books to purchase a starting pitcher and two relievers. They are not a team that enjoys spending over the luxury tax, and at this point in the season, they probably would be in the middle of the Wild Card chase if not for their bullpen troubles early in the season.
“The Cubs are 20-12 in their previous 32 games and are currently just 3.5 games shy of a Wild Card berth, so they aren’t as far out of contention as their record would suggest. Shane Bieber, if healthy, will be a great addition as a frontline starter to go with Justin Steele and Shota Imanaga. Last winter, the Cubs were just marginally related
