This season, Birmingham City has the potential to shatter the League One transfer record. Blues have the financial ability to surpass the rumored £4 million that Sunderland paid for Will Grigg in January 2019 thanks to the financial might of American owners Knighthead.
That the Blues will surpass that record in order to sign Rangers defender Connor Goldson, 31, seems unlikely. Furthermore, it appears even less likely that they will shell out up to £30 million for the defender (yep, you read it right).
That is the amount that former Aston Villa CEO Keith Wyness has put on Goldson, who is apparently drawing attention from Saudi Arabian clubs and the Blues. The Scottish Sun earlier this week connected Blues with a deal for Goldson.
Former CEO of Villa, Everton, and Aberdeen Wyness stated to Football Insider on Goldson’s circumstances: “I think Birmingham seems to be the favourite.” You brought up the EFL, and from what I’ve heard, Goldson is most interested in it.
