Birmingham City Boosted by Player Returns, But Injury Concerns Persist

Birmingham City manager Chris Davies has received a boost with several players returning from injuries in recent weeks. The latest to rejoin the squad is captain Krystian Bielik, who started against Northampton Town, replacing Rangers loanee Ben Davies, sidelined by illness.

Bielik’s return signals Birmingham’s progress toward a nearly fully fit squad. Left-back Lee Buchanan, sidelined for over three months with recurring calf issues, is on track to return after the international break. However, wingers Emil Hansson and Scott Wright remain unavailable, while long-term absentee Alfie Chang is not eligible for League One matches due to his omission from the summer squad submission.

There is uncertainty surrounding midfielder Luke Harris ahead of this weekend’s match against Shrewsbury Town. Harris withdrew from Wales’ national team camp due to illness, with Wales confirming his absence via social media.

Injury Updates

Lee Buchanan (Calf): Buchanan has faced setbacks in his recovery but is nearing a return. Davies noted, “He needs to build a base of fitness to cope with the demands of training and games.”

Emil Hansson (Muscle): Hansson sustained an injury during the October 19 match against Lincoln and has been ruled out until after the international break.

Scott Wright (Unspecified): Wright remains sidelined after suffering an injury in training, missing six games to date. Davies indicated he is unlikely to return before the international break.

Alfie Chang (Knee): After 14 months out with a cruciate ligament injury, Chang is progressing well but is limited to under-21 appearances as he regains full fitness.

Birmingham City now face a pivotal stretch of games, hoping to navigate their injury challenges as they push toward their objectives for the season.
