Chase Claypool, a wide receiver, may miss the entire season as a result of the Buffalo Bills placing him on injured reserve. After sustaining a toe injury on 28 July, Claypool has missed nearly all of training camp and has not been back on the pitch since. Sean McDermott, the coach of the Bills, first stated that his condition was “day-to-day.” Although Claypool was absent from Monday’s training session, he was present for Buffalo’s preseason workouts and game against the Chicago Bears on Saturday. He hasn’t yet taken part in a practice with the Bills that is completely padded.
Teams may name two injured players on the final 53-man roster who can return later in the season under a new league rule, but they must do so by cutdown day on August 27. Claypool would later be able to re-sign with the Bills or another team if the Bills and he reach an injury settlement. He won’t be able to play this season, though, if he stays on IR.
“It’s unfortunate that [some new players have] missed a significant amount of time, Chase included,” McDermott stated in response to a question on Claypool during training. “… It’s difficult to assess when the players, Chase included, aren’t in the game. We’re eager to get him back, and I know he’s fighting like crazy to get back.” Following the NFL draft, 26-year-old Claypool agreed to a one-year contract with the Bills. After being traded by the Bears in October, he played for the Miami Dolphins for a portion of the previous season before joining the Bills, his third NFL team in two years.
