Trent Brown, an offensive tackle in his tenth year, was approved by the Cincinnati Bengals to practice on Sunday after passing a physical. However, he did not take part in the first practice of the season.
On Sunday, the ninth day of training camp, coach Zac Taylor stated that Brown has been experiencing “tightness.” Brown was on the rehab field. On July 23, he was added to the list of active non-football injuries.
The Bengals signed Brown to a one-year contract in March after Jonah Williams left in free agency. However, Taylor claims he informed Brown that the team might still choose an offensive tackle to develop during that process. Amarius Mims was ultimately chosen in the first round at number 18, overall, and it was anticipated that Mims would be gaining experience behind Trent Brown and left tackle Orlando Brown Jr.
Because Trent Brown was absent from the voluntary offseason workouts for a number of weeks, Mims was able to practice with the starting offense and maybe accelerate his learning curve. Mims has benefited from the repetitions as well, and with Brown on the Non-Football Injury list for the first eight practices of training camp, the real competition is about to commence whenever Brown resumes practice.
After practice, Brown was asked to do an interview, but he rejected, stating he had to go to the trainers’ room.
The Bengals have not had a reliable starting right tackle since Bobby Hart handled the position from 2018 to 2020, which makes this the fourth year in a row that the team will start a new player.
