Aleksander Aamodt Kilde has been Hospitalized Again due to…

Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, a 31-year-old Norwegian alpine ski racer best renowned for his accomplishments in Super-G and Downhill competitions, dislocated his shoulder at the Lauberhorn races in Wengen in January of last year. Kilde is still coping with the fallout after being flown from the scene.

Over the past several weeks, the ski racer has reported feeling more pain in his healed shoulder. At first, this seemed like a typical reaction to increasing his training and gradually returning to routines similar to those of professional athletes.

A setback in his path to shoulder rehabilitation, an Instagram post from July 31, 2024, disclosed that the pain was, in fact, the consequence of “an angry infection that has caused some damage.”

Kilde explains that this setback means six weeks of IV antibiotics everyday through a PICC line that resides in his arm until the infection is completely gone and the bone is back to normal.

Comparable to intravenous (IV) lines, PICC lines are thicker and intended to remain in place for extended periods of time, even months. PICC lines are threaded through a sizable vein directly above the heart after being placed into a vein in the upper arm.
