The Clemson Tigers’ 2024 season was nothing short of a roller coaster. It began with a humbling blowout loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in the opener but quickly rebounded with six consecutive victories as the offense found its
stride. Despite some struggles during a 4-3 finish to the season, the Tigers stepped up when it mattered most, particularly in their ACC Championship win over the SMU Mustangs.
Quarterback Cade Klubnik, a former five-star recruit, emerged as a leader, capitalizing on a strong supporting cast. Among his key targets was tight end Jake Briningstool, who had a standout season with 49 receptions, 530 yards,
and seven touchdowns. His consistent production has positioned him as one of the top tight end prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft. Pro Football Network’s Jacob Infante projects Briningstool as a fifth-round pick for the Philadelphia Eagles at No. 166 overall.
Antonio Williams, the team’s leading receiver with 75 receptions and 11 touchdowns, complemented Briningstool’s efforts, creating a dynamic passing attack for Klubnik. The duo played pivotal roles in Clemson’s resurgence after a slow start to the season.
Running back Phil Mafah also had a career-defining year. In his first season as the Tigers’ undisputed lead back, Mafah rushed for 1,115 yards and eight touchdowns on 216 carries, while adding 21 receptions for 103 yards. Although an injury late in the season affected his performance, his overall contributions caught the attention of scouts. Infante has Mafah slated to go to the New York Giants with the No. 217 overall pick in the seventh round.
Mafah could form an exciting backfield tandem with Tyrone Tracy Jr., a fifth-round selection by the Giants in the 2024 draft. Tracy, a former wide receiver, has already established himself as a versatile leader in the Giants’ rushing attack.
The 2024 Tigers’ campaign underscores Clemson’s reputation as a program that consistently develops NFL talent. Alongside Briningstool and Mafah, Clemson is expected to send at least three more players to the 2025 NFL Draft, further solidifying the legacy of head coach Dabo Swinney.
Despite some offensive struggles in the latter part of the season, the Tigers demonstrated resilience and adaptability, qualities that will serve their NFL-bound players well at the next level. With an ACC title in hand and a steady pipeline of professional talent, Clemson remains a powerhouse in college football.
As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, Tigers fans can look forward to seeing their favorite players take the next step, continuing Clemson’s tradition of excellence both on and off the field.
