Three days after Pro Football Hall of Famer and former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Randy Moss revealed his cancer diagnosis, the Vikings paid a heartfelt tribute to their legendary player during Monday Night Football against the Chicago Bears.
Before kickoff, Vikings honorary captains Cris Carter and Jake Reed walked to midfield for the coin toss holding a No. 84 Moss jersey. As they did, Vikings PA announcer Alan Roach declared, “
In honor of Randy Moss, and all those fighting cancer, let’s Moss cancer.” The crowd responded with resounding “Randy!” chants, while the
Vikings’ social media team posted, “You’re with us tonight, 84.” Carter, who shared the field with Moss from 1998 to 2001, expressed his support for
his former teammate. “What Randy is going through right now, I couldn’t imagine,” Carter said. “As teammates, collectives, organization, we’re just praying for him and his family.”
The tributes extended into the game, as Justin Jefferson dedicated his first touchdown to Moss, shouting into the cameras, “We love you, Randy! That’s for you.”
Moss, 47, recently shared details of his battle, revealing he underwent surgery and spent six days in the hospital. He is set to begin radiation and chemotherapy in the coming weeks. Moss plans to return to ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown once his health allows.
Current and former NFL players, including Tom Brady, Adam Thielen, and Rob Gronkowski, have joined fans and media personalities in sending their support to Moss during this challenging time.
