Denver Nuggets Exploring Trade for Zach LaVine to Bolster Offensive Firepower

The Denver Nuggets are working to secure support for Nikola Jokić and are reportedly eyeing a major trade to bolster their roster.

According to The Athletic’s Tony Jones and Sam Amick, Denver is seeking a high-scoring player to elevate its offensive firepower. Jokić has been dominant this season, averaging 30.9 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 9.9 assists in 37.2 minutes per game. Despite his stellar performance, the Nuggets believe additional help is essential and have identified their primary target.

Among the options considered, Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine has emerged as Denver’s main focus. The 29-year-old two-time All-Star is averaging 21.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 33.3 minutes per game. Notably, LaVine is shooting a career-high 42.8% from three-point range across 23 games this season.

LaVine’s contract is a significant factor in trade discussions. He is earning $43 million this season, with $45.9 million due next year, and holds a player option worth $48.9 million for the 2026-27 season.

To acquire LaVine, Denver would need to part with forward Michael Porter Jr., whose salary would match in a trade. The 26-year-old is currently posting 18.5 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 35.2 minutes per game while shooting 38.5% from deep. Backup forward Zeke Nnaji is also expected to be included in any trade package.

This isn’t Denver’s first attempt at a blockbuster move. During the offseason, the Nuggets pursued a trade for Paul George, offering Porter and Nnaji to the Los Angeles Clippers, though those negotiations fell through.

The Nuggets are built around Jokić and Jamal Murray, but the team feels an additional shot creator is crucial to their success. LaVine, with his ability to score in isolation and stretch the floor, fits the profile of the player Denver needs.

As trade talks progress, the Nuggets’ front office faces the challenge of balancing current success with future potential, as they aim to maximize their championship window with Jokić at the center.
