San Diego FC Acquire Forward Tomás Ángel in Trade with LAFC
San Diego FC has bolstered their attack by acquiring forward Tomás Ángel and a second-round pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft from LAFC in exchange for $200,000 in 2025 General Allocation Money (GAM), the clubs announced on Monday.
Ángel, a 21-year-old Colombian youth international, joined LAFC last winter and netted two goals in seven appearances across all competitions. Known for his sharp finishing and versatility, Ángel has quickly gained attention as a promising talent.
“Tommy is an exciting forward with a winning mentality who adds top qualities to our front line,” said SDFC sporting director Tyler Heaps. “We are thrilled to help him continue his development at San Diego FC and look forward to welcoming him to the club.”
Ángel brings a strong pedigree to San Diego, as the son of legendary New York Red Bulls striker Juan Pablo Ángel. He spent the latter half of last season on loan with USL Championship side Phoenix Rising FC, where he tallied three goals in 15 matches, showcasing his potential at the professional level.
Prior to his move to MLS, Ángel scored eight goals in 52 matches for Atlético Nacional in Colombia, demonstrating his ability to contribute in competitive environments.
San Diego FC, under head coach Mikey Varas, will begin preseason training next month as they prepare for their highly anticipated inaugural MLS match in February against the reigning champions, LA Galaxy.
The addition of Ángel signals San Diego’s intent to build a dynamic and competitive roster for their debut season. Fans are eager to see how Ángel fits into Varas’ system and contributes to the club’s attacking firepower.
With his combination of youth, skill, and experience, Ángel is poised to become a key figure for San Diego FC as they embark on their MLS journey.
