Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Demarcus Robinson will remain on the field for this weekend’s game against the New Orleans
Saints, despite being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) earlier this week.
Rams head coach Sean McVay announced on Wednesday that the team will not suspend Robinson, opting instead to allow the legal
process to unfold. McVay expressed confidence that Robinson is “remorseful” following the incident, which occurred hours after the Rams’
37-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night at SoFi Stadium. Robinson was pulled over around 5:15 a.m. on Monday morning after
reportedly driving at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour on a Los Angeles-area freeway. Authorities stated they observed signs of alcohol
impairment, leading to his arrest on suspicion of DUI. Robinson was cited and later released. “I think it was a bad decision he made,” McVay
said, per ESPN. “I don’t think that makes him a bad person. I do believe this is something that, with the words that he said, our guys will learn
from it and hopefully nobody’s ever going to repeat something like this.” The 30-year-old Robinson, in his second season with the Rams,
has had a productive 2024 campaign, totaling 384 yards and a career-high six touchdowns on 26 receptions. He signed a one-year, $4 million
contract to return to the Rams this past offseason. Robinson caught two passes, including a touchdown, in the team’s loss to the
Eagles. Earlier this week, Robinson addressed the situation with his teammates during a team meeting. McVay praised Robinson’s approach to
the incident, noting his acknowledgment of the severity of the situation. “I did appreciate his ability to acknowledge it to the team while also
not minimizing or undermining the severity of what could have been,” McVay said. “I trust he’s going to learn from it, and I think it’ll be a good
learning opportunity for our whole football team.” The Rams, currently 5-6 and third in the NFC West, will face the New Orleans Saints on
Sunday in Louisiana at 4:05 p.m. ET (Fox). The team has lost two of its last three games.
