Daniel Jones Released by New York Giants, Expected to Sign for Dallas Cowboys…

The New York Giants and former No. 6 overall pick Daniel Jones officially parted ways on Friday after Jones requested his release. The

earlier this week. The Giants will incur over $20 million in dead money as part of the release. Since the trade deadline has passed, Jones,

despite being a vested veteran, will be subject to the waiver wire. However, it is expected he will clear waivers due to the significant financial

commitment remaining on his contract. Any team claiming him would be responsible for the full remaining value of his four-year, $160 million

deal. As a result, Jones is likely to become an unrestricted free agent and will be free to sign with any team.

Here are six potential destinations for Jones, and why each could be a good fit:

1. Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys could present an intriguing option, particularly given their rivalry with the Giants and their Thanksgiving matchup. With Dak Prescott on season-ending injured reserve, Dallas has struggled at quarterback, relying on Cooper Rush, who has yet to win a start this season. Jones could provide a stabilizing presence and an opportunity to showcase his talents for future free-agent opportunities.

2. Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders have cycled through multiple quarterbacks this season, with Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell both receiving starts. Neither has emerged as a long-term solution, making Jones a potential starter. Additionally, Jones has a connection to defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, who coached him with the Giants during his early years.

3. Cleveland Browns
With Jameis Winston currently leading the Browns, the situation in Cleveland could be ripe for a change, especially if Winston’s performance falters. Backup quarterbacks Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Bailey Zappe have little starting experience, making Jones a viable candidate for the starting role.

4. San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers could be another appealing destination for Jones, particularly given Brock Purdy’s uncertain status due to a shoulder injury. San Francisco’s stability, combined with the presence of offensive mastermind Kyle Shanahan, could provide a supportive environment for Jones to thrive. The team’s West Coast offense could also help him regain his confidence.

5. Miami Dolphins
With Tua Tagovailoa’s injury history, the Dolphins could offer Jones an opportunity to step in if needed. Miami’s high-powered offense, featuring talented skill players and a strong rushing attack, would provide a favorable environment for Jones. Additionally, the team’s West Coast system mirrors Jones’ previous experience in New York.

6. Arizona Cardinals
Although Kyler Murray has returned to form, the Cardinals lack an experienced backup quarterback. With only Clayton Tune behind Murray, Jones could be a valuable addition to ensure depth at the position. Arizona’s recent four-game win streak could make it an appealing landing spot for Jones as they continue to build momentum.

As Jones prepares for the next phase of his career, these teams offer potential opportunities for both immediate playing time and a chance to rebuild his value ahead of free agency.
