The Philadelphia Eagles’ 2023 season, which once held great promise, ended in disappointment as they were eliminated by the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round of the NFC playoffs. After starting the season with an impressive 10-1 record, the team
endured a collapse, managing just one win in their final six regular-season games. Quarterback Jalen Hurts, who was in the MVP
conversation during the Eagles’ strong start, became the target of fan criticism after his performance declined late in the season. Some
fans on social media were particularly harsh, blaming Hurts for the team’s struggles and playoff exit. One fan called it “the greatest
meltdown to a season in NFL history,” while others questioned his future with the team. Despite the backlash, Hurts’ performance in the
playoff loss wasn’t entirely to blame. He finished the Buccaneers game with a solid 100.9 passer rating. The Eagles’ defensive issues, which
plagued them throughout the season, were arguably a bigger problem. The defense allowed an average of 25.2 points per game in the
regular season, a major factor in their inability to maintain their early dominance. While the offseason will likely see questions about Hurts’
role, the Eagles must address their defensive shortcomings to regain their form.
