Mick Schumacher Hints at Major F1 Driver Shake-Ups and Retirements for 2024

Mercedes reserve driver Mick Schumacher has suggested that significant changes are ahead in Formula 1 for 2024, including potential intra-

team shifts and the retirement of two drivers. Recent events have already set the stage for upheaval, with the rejection of Andretti

Cadillac’s entry until 2028 and Lewis Hamilton’s upcoming move to Ferrari, shaking the F1 landscape. Schumacher, who is committed to a

full-time role with Alpine in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), remains optimistic about future opportunities in F1. His WEC contract

allows him to continue reserve duties with Mercedes, but with no clear successor to Hamilton in 2025, the team may look to a

veteran like Fernando Alonso or a rising star like Schumacher. Despite not racing in F1 since 2022 with Haas, Schumacher hinted at potential

driver retirements, saying, “The driver market is quite active, and a lot will happen in the coming months, with changes in teams’ cockpits and

possibly the end of two careers.” The 24-year-old also emphasized his readiness for F1, citing his success in lower formulas and his ability to

handle pressure. “I know I have the skills for it,” he affirmed. “I proved that in F4, F3, and F2.”
