Miami hurricanes trade for CB DJ Pickett Intensifies as Signing Day Approaches

The Race for 5-Star CB DJ Pickett Intensifies as Signing Day Approaches

With just two weeks remaining until National Signing Day, the recruitment battle for five-star cornerback DJ Pickett continues to heat up. Currently, LSU holds the advantage, thanks to Pickett’s commitment back in July. However, rival programs like Miami and Georgia remain determined to flip the nation’s No. 2 cornerback, with both schools continuing to make a push.

On November 21, Cane Sport insider Izubee Charles joined On3 Recruits’ Josh Newberg for an update on Miami’s pursuit of Pickett. Charles confirmed that Miami head coach Mario Cristobal is still fully invested in landing Pickett but noted that no additional visits are planned. Charles mentioned speaking with Pickett’s father, who revealed that the family plans to take a trip out of state, but no further recruiting visits are on the schedule at this time.

Miami’s chances may hinge on a personal connection, as Pickett’s cousin plays for the Hurricanes, potentially offering an added incentive. The 6’4″, 180-pound cornerback, who impressed last season with 31 tackles and one interception on defense, as well as 52 receptions for 1,033 yards and 15 touchdowns on offense, has garnered significant attention for his dual-threat abilities.

Steve Wiltfong of On3 also reported that Cristobal has been relentless in his communication with Pickett and will likely continue to push hard as the early signing period nears in December. However, the competition remains fierce.

Georgia, meanwhile, has also been making a strong push. Pickett, who was expected to attend LSU’s game against Florida last week, instead visited the Georgia-Tennessee matchup, where the Bulldogs secured a dominant 31-17 win. This visit raised further speculation about Pickett’s potential lean toward Georgia, especially after LSU’s disappointing loss to Florida.

Despite the loss, LSU continues to be active in its recruitment of Pickett, with Wiltfong noting that Pickett’s visit to Baton Rouge for LSU’s 42-13 loss to Alabama went well, according to Pickett’s father. However, with no further visits planned, the next major development in this recruitment will likely come on December 4, when Pickett is expected to make his final decision.

As the clock ticks down to National Signing Day, the battle for one of the nation’s top cornerbacks remains as intense as ever.
