Marlins Add Three Top Prospects to 40-Man Roster, Including Power-Hitting Deyvison De Los Santos

The Miami Marlins have selected the contracts of all three of their Top 30 MLB Pipeline prospects eligible for the Rule 5 Draft ahead of Tuesday’s deadline. The players are Minor League home run champion Deyvison De Los Santos, middle infielder Jared Serna, and left-handed pitcher Dax Fulton.

De Los Santos, ranked as the Marlins’ No. 4 prospect, joined the organization on July 25 as part of the trade that sent A.J. Puk to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 21-year-old was previously unprotected by Arizona in the 2023 Rule 5 Draft, leading to a brief selection by Cleveland before being returned in March. De Los Santos had a standout 2024 season, leading all Minor Leaguers with 40 home runs and 120 RBIs, while also driving in the most runs (287) in the Minors since 2022. He demonstrated elite power, but will need to improve his pitch selection after posting 144 strikeouts against 34 walks in 2024.

The Marlins also promoted Serna, their No. 10 prospect, who arrived in a midseason trade with the New York Yankees for Jazz Chisholm Jr. The 22-year-old impressed at Double-A Pensacola with 15 extra-base hits in 39 games before a brief promotion to Triple-A Jacksonville. Known for his compact right-handed swing and good plate discipline, Serna is expected to continue his development, with the Marlins hopeful he can remain at shortstop.

Fulton, the 23-year-old left-hander, is recovering from a second Tommy John surgery. The Marlins’ No. 26 prospect, selected in the 2020 MLB Draft, had been on track for a possible MLB debut in 2023 before undergoing the procedure in June. Despite the setback, Fulton’s repertoire, including a plus curveball and slider, as well as a fastball reaching up to 97 mph, has shown significant potential.

With these contract selections, the Marlins’ 40-man roster is now at capacity.
