Neil Lennon Makes Greg Taylor trade move to Succeed in Premier League Amid Contract Uncertainty at Celtic

Neil Lennon has praised Greg Taylor, describing the Celtic left-back as more than capable of playing in the English Premier League.

The 27-year-old’s future at Celtic Park remains uncertain as contract talks continue. With his current deal set to expire at the end of the season, Taylor is eligible to begin pre-contract discussions with other clubs in January. While the Scotland international is reportedly keen to extend his stay at Celtic, and manager Brendan Rodgers is equally eager to retain him, no agreement has been reached.

Since joining the club from Kilmarnock for a reported £2 million in 2019, Taylor has established himself as a key figure in Celtic’s defense, particularly excelling as an inverted full-back. Lennon, who signed Taylor during his time as Celtic manager, believes the defender has been a consistent performer both domestically and in Europe.

Speaking to OLBG, Lennon said: “Greg Taylor has been a model of consistency for Celtic, both in domestic and European competitions. For the fee Celtic paid for him, he’s been excellent value. He’s a very good player and a solid defender, and his development over the years has been impressive. I understand why Brendan wants to keep him—left-backs are hard to come by, and Greg is a reliable option.”

Lennon also acknowledged Taylor’s potential to succeed in the Premier League, despite his relatively low profile among some sections of the Celtic support. He added: “I’d be disappointed to see him leave Celtic, especially as he seems very happy at the club. But Greg Taylor could easily play in the Premier League. Just look at how players like Ryan Christie, Odsonne Edouard, and Kristoffer Ajer have adapted down south. I’m confident Taylor would make an impact at that level, just like Matt O’Riley is already doing.”
