Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava Injured in Win Over Mississippi State, Status Uncertain for Next Game

No. 6 Tennessee (8-1, 5-1 SEC) secured a 33-14 victory over Mississippi State (2-8, 0-6 SEC) on Saturday at Neyland Stadium during Week 11 of the college football season. The rankings reflect the US LBM Coaches Poll.

Tennessee’s redshirt freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava had an efficient outing, completing 8 of 13 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns, with no interceptions. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound quarterback also added 22 rushing yards on four carries. However, Iamaleava did not return for the second half after taking a hit from Mississippi State safety Isaac Smith.

After the game, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel provided an update on Iamaleava’s status. “We anticipate having him ready for next week,” Heupel said. “It was a precautionary measure at halftime, so we’ll be prepared to roll on Saturday.”
