Texas Secures Transfer Commitment from Former Texas A&M Offensive Tackle…

The Texas Longhorns have added another notable piece to their roster through the transfer portal, securing a commitment from offensive tackle Jonte Newman, who previously played at Texas A&M. Newman, a true freshman in the 2025 cycle, will make the move to Austin after beginning his college career in College Station.

A native of Cypress, Texas, Newman was rated as a four-star prospect coming out of high school and ranked among the top offensive linemen in the 2025 recruiting class. His size, athleticism, and long-term upside made him a highly sought-after recruit, with Texas A&M winning his initial commitment during the recruiting process.

Newman redshirted during his first season with the Aggies and did not see extensive on-field action, a common path for young offensive linemen as they develop at the collegiate level. Despite the limited playing time, he remained a highly regarded developmental prospect within the program.

Following his decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal, Newman quickly drew interest from multiple programs. Texas emerged as a strong contender, ultimately landing the in-state transfer and keeping one of Texas’ top offensive line prospects within the state.

The addition of Newman provides the Longhorns with increased depth and future flexibility along the offensive line. With several veteran linemen already in place, Texas can afford to develop Newman while maximizing his long-term potential in the program.

Newman will arrive in Austin with four years of eligibility remaining, giving Texas a valuable building block for the future. His commitment also represents another significant portal win for the Longhorns as they continue to reinforce key positions ahead of upcoming seasons.
