Georgia Tech makes another change to their defensive position with commit of carrington coombs

Players that visited campus over the last two weekends gave the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets their tenth commitment, keeping up their ferocious recruiting pace. Hebron Christian Academy’s (Dacula, GA) Carrington Coombs is the newest member of the class of 2025.

Coombs is a three-star EDGE who is ranked 87th overall and the 91st player from Georgia by 24/7 Sports.

GoJackets.com managed to interview him following his Twitter announcement.

Recalling his initial impression of the culture the Yellow Jackets are fostering, Coombs gave his reason for choosing the team on Saturday. “Just being around the players and coaches you can tell it’s a true family they weren’t putting on a persona that how they truly act around each other.”

A week after the Dacula native and his parents and sister traveled to The Flats via Interstate 85, a decision was made. He didn’t know at one point that Georgia Tech was the right fit for him, but he did feel valued by the staff during the recruiting process and during his visit to the school last week.

“[I felt like] a huge priority to them,” he stated. “And they feel like I can get the job done.”

His choice to commit was largely influenced by his conversations with defensive coordinator Tyler Santucci, outside linebackers/rush coach Kyle Pope, and head coach Brent Key. He is confident that the Yellow Jackets will be a formidable opponent both in the ACC and nationally.

“I believe they are about to make a major jump in competition not only for ACC but for National Championships as well,” Coombs said about his belief in the Georgia Tech program. “Just the Coaching staff they’ve been able to put together in the past year and the recruits want to be a part of it and developed by those people there. They all have outstanding pasts in the coaching aspect of things who wouldn’t want to be Coached by them.”

Coombs is a bit of a unique defensive prospect for Santucci and the defensive staff. At 6-foot-2, 228 pounds, he has the size and athleticism to play off the edge — like he did in high school at Hebron — or in the secondary — like he has this summer. He told GoJackets.com that he would continue working with the defensive staff about where he’ll end up playing on Saturdays, but the versatility he offers could prove valuable.

Following his choice on Saturday, Coombs made it clear that, as of right now, he is locking down his commitment and won’t be accepting any more formal visits before signing day. He had fourteen offers from Virginia, Boston College, Kansas State, Michigan State, and other schools.

In a concluding address to Georgia Tech supporters, Coombs expressed his excitement for the program’s future plans in no uncertain terms. He continued, “Stay tuned for what the future holds on The Flats!!”
