“It’s only been a hot minute since Daniel Gafford landed in Big D through that trade with the Wizards, but let me tell ya, he’s already sipping the Kool-Aid on just how flashy his new star buds Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are.
“Talk about some dynamic scorers,” Gafford spilled to DallasBasketball.com. “I mean, watching Kyrie pull off those finishes, seeing Luka hit those shots… Holy cow! It’s like, ‘Geez Louise, guys!’ I’m just there for the rebounds, but most times I’m watching the ball swish through the net before I can even move. I usually just take off running ’cause I know it’s money, especially with Luka’s wild shots.”
While Gafford admits to being “mesmerized” and “starstruck” by the magic Doncic and Irving whip up on the court, he’s also not exactly shocked. Apparently, he’s been spying on their off-day practices, where they work on those jaw-dropping moves.
“I see Luka practicing that stuff all the time. From our practices to shootarounds, he’s drilling those shots,” Gafford spilled. “Kyrie’s the same way, practicing those fancy layups you see him pull off. That one where he flipped it over Wemby? Yup, he’s practicing that. They’re on it like clockwork, always putting in the work.
“But when you see it live… man, it’s like watching a magic show. I’m starstruck every time they make something happen.”
Gafford’s been a snug fit in his first few games with the Mavs, averaging a solid 12.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks, helping the team snag wins in all four matchups.
