Detroit Lions and Ford Philanthropy Team Up to Provide 2 Million Meals for Thanksgiving

The Detroit Lions have announced the second annual Feeding America Lions Thanksgiving Classic Campaign to help families put food on the table this holiday season.

This year, the Lions are partnering with Ford Philanthropy, the global philanthropic arm of Ford Motor Company, to extend the nationwide effort.

The need is massive — nearly 50 million people in the U.S., including 14 million children, are experiencing food insecurity. The campaign aims to provide up to two million meals.

How it works:
Ford Philanthropy will match every dollar donated by fans, up to $100,000, throughout November, culminating with the Lions Thanksgiving Day Classic presented by Ford vs. the Chicago Bears on Nov. 26  . With every $1 providing at least 10 meals through Feeding America, the goal is $200,000 total.

Fans can donate digitally or at Ford Field on gamedays at all Levy concession kiosks via the Round Up feature, and can direct their donation to their local food bank.

Building on last year, which impacted 28 states and 65 food banks with more than 800,000 meals, the campaign also includes local efforts — like assembling 15,000 Thanksgiving meal kits with Gleaners Community Food Bank. In Michigan alone, 1.5 million people face hunger, including 1 in 5 children.
