Lions Broadcaster Dan Miller Returns to Booth With Emotional Tribute to Late Wife Cindy During Crucial Catch Game

It was more than just football at Ford Field on Sunday.

Longtime Detroit Lions radio play-by-play voice Dan Miller made his emotional return to the booth on Sunday, October 25, just two weeks after losing his wife, Cindy, to cancer.

Cindy Miller passed away on October 10 at the age of 63. The couple had been married for 33 years. Miller missed Detroit’s 45-21 win over the Arizona Cardinals the following day, with Detroit Tigers voice Jason Benetti filling in and sharing a heartfelt message for the family.

Head coach Dan Campbell was visibly emotional after that win, dedicating the game ball to Miller. Quarterback Jared Goff also fought back tears, saying Miller is “part of our family” and “his voice is Lions football.”

On Sunday, Miller returned for the Lions’ 20-17 win over the Green Bay Packers — a game that was part of the NFL’s annual Crucial Catch initiative, which raises awareness for cancer prevention and early detection.

During the game, Miller held up a pink Crucial Catch card that read “In Honor of Cindy Miller” while patting his chest. Colleagues in the booth joined him, holding up their own tribute cards in a moving show of support.

It was Miller’s way of turning his personal grief into a public tribute, and fans online were left in tears.

Prior to his return, Miller thanked Detroit for the outpouring of love, saying the messages and support had been healing for his family.
