West Virginia offensive coordinator Chad Scott has officially announced his departure from the Mountaineers, taking to social media on Friday to express his gratitude as he prepares for his next role as the running backs coach at Texas.
In his statement, Scott reflected on his time in Morgantown, thanking the program, staff, and players for the past six years. “It’s been an honor and privilege for my family and me to have called West Virginia home. I’m extremely grateful for my time at WVU, the staff, and all the players,” Scott said.
Scott joined the Mountaineers’ coaching staff in 2019, initially overseeing the running backs before assuming additional responsibilities. He served as WVU’s offensive coordinator during the 2023-24 season and had previously held roles as co-offensive coordinator and run-game coordinator. Most recently, he stepped in as the interim head coach for the team’s bowl game.
Speculation regarding Scott’s move surfaced earlier in the week, and on Thursday, head coach Rich Rodriguez confirmed his transition to Texas. “I don’t know him that well, but I think he’s a really good coach and he’ll do well with (Steve) Sark(isian),” Rodriguez commented.
Scott’s departure marks a significant shift for WVU’s offensive staff, as he played a key role in the program’s offensive strategies and player development. His leadership in the running game was particularly influential, contributing to the team’s success on the field.
At Texas, Scott will work under head coach Steve Sarkisian, bringing his expertise to a Longhorns program looking to strengthen its ground game. His ability to develop talent and implement effective rushing schemes is expected to be a valuable asset for the team.
As he closes this chapter at WVU, Scott expressed appreciation for the unwavering support he received from the Mountaineer community. “To everyone who was a part of our time here and Mountaineer Nation, thank you for your unwavering support,” he said.
With Scott’s departure, West Virginia will now look to fill a critical position within its coaching staff as it prepares for the upcoming season.
