West Virginia University’s football program remains in the running for highly sought-after 2026 quarterback recruit Brodie McWhorter, who had previously committed to the Mountaineers before reopening his recruitment. Under the leadership of head coach Rich Rodriguez, WVU continues to make a strong push to bring McWhorter back into the fold.
McWhorter, a standout from Cass High School in Kingston, Georgia, has narrowed his choices to seven schools: West Virginia, Auburn, Colorado, Indiana, Mississippi State, Syracuse, and Wisconsin. His decision-making process is expected to intensify in the coming months as he evaluates his options.
Rodriguez and his coaching staff have been actively recruiting McWhorter, with the head coach even making a trip to Georgia to visit the quarterback. McWhorter has reciprocated the interest, sharing positive interactions with Rodriguez on social media, including a virtual conversation where both appeared enthusiastic about the discussion.
The quarterback initially decommitted from WVU on December 2, shortly after the program parted ways with former head coach Neal Brown. His decision followed an emotional social media post in which he expressed gratitude toward Brown, calling him “legendary.” Despite their close bond, McWhorter appears open to rejoining WVU under Rodriguez’s leadership.
A 6-foot-2, 195-pound quarterback, McWhorter is considered a four-star recruit by two major national recruiting outlets, while another rates him as a three-star prospect. His impressive list of offers includes Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan State, North Carolina, Ohio State, and Oregon, among others.
Additionally, powerhouse programs such as Alabama, Clemson, LSU, and Tennessee have expressed interest in the talented signal-caller. Most recently, Syracuse extended him an offer on January 19, adding to the growing competition for his commitment.
McWhorter was initially one of the first commitments in WVU’s 2026 recruiting class, announcing his decision in June. His potential return would be a significant win for Rodriguez as he works to build the future of Mountaineer football.
With months still to go before a final decision, West Virginia remains a serious contender in the race for McWhorter, hoping to bring him back into the program and secure a key piece of its offensive future.
