Pittsburgh Pirates just officially signed Taylor Ward

The Los Angeles Angels are expected to be sellers at the MLB trade deadline, with outfielder Taylor Ward being one of their valuable assets. The Pittsburgh Pirates, needing an upgrade, are reportedly in discussions to acquire Ward.

Ward is currently hitting .238 with a .737 OPS and has two more seasons under contract, increasing his trade value. While primarily an outfielder, Ward’s ability to play third base adds to his appeal.

Potential Pirates-Taylor Ward Trade

The Angels, not in contention, will likely seek a package of prospects. The Pirates, who have had success with young pitchers like Paul Skenes and Jared Jones, may be willing to part with some pitching prospects. One notable prospect is Braxton Ashcraft, who has plus stuff and good control. At 24, Ashcraft is MLB-ready and could make an impact this season. Ranked as the Pirates’ number-five prospect by MLB Pipeline, Ashcraft would be a significant addition to the Angels’ rotation. Although the Angels might be reluctant to trade Ward, a prospect of Ashcraft’s caliber could convince them.

Another potential trade piece is Hunter Barco, the Pirates’ number twelve prospect. Barco needs further development and won’t be MLB-ready for a few years, making him a valuable secondary acquisition for the Angels. The Pirates, with a crowded rotation, might find it feasible to include Barco in the trade.

The Pirates are looking for upgrades and might pursue a trade for Taylor Ward. If successful, this could be the trade package.
