Eli Tomac Sidelined with Broken Fibula, Will Miss Upcoming Supercross Rounds

Marietta, GA – In a devastating turn of events for Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac, the motocross legend has been forced to sit out the upcoming rounds of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship due to a broken fibula sustained during qualifying at the Tampa Supercross last Saturday. Initially believed to be a mere ankle sprain and bruised calf, further medical evaluations revealed a more serious injury, confirming the broken fibula that will keep Tomac off the track for the foreseeable future.

Despite the injury, Tomac showcased immense grit and determination, racing through the pain to finish seventh in his heat race and compete in the main event, securing five valuable points in the 450SX Championship standings. His resilience under such circumstances only underscores his legendary status in the sport.

Team Manager Rich Simmons expressed his disappointment over the news: “We’re all really bummed for Eli. He has been riding so great and was right there in the hunt for this championship. It was already impressive for him to race the heat race and the main event on Saturday night, but now knowing the full extent of the injury, it really speaks volumes about Eli’s determination. We’re looking forward to having him back stronger than ever.”

Tomac himself commented on the situation, revealing the emotional toll of the injury: “Unfortunately, this was more than an ankle sprain and a bruised calf. After two days of pain not improving, I got additional scans on my leg, and I do have a broken fibula. This is such a bummer as I’ve never felt better on the motorcycle in Supercross and getting a win at San Diego was great. I don’t have an exact timeframe of recovery at this time but will be working to come back as soon as possible.”

The news comes as a significant blow to both Tomac and his fans, as the eight-time AMA Supercross/Motocross Champion was performing at a high level and remained a key contender in the 450SX Championship. His absence from the upcoming rounds, starting with Detroit this weekend, will undoubtedly shake up the dynamics of the competition.

As Tomac focuses on his recovery, his team and fans alike will be eagerly awaiting updates on his return to full fitness. Yamaha has stated that more details on Tomac’s recovery timeline will be provided in the coming weeks, as the rider begins the process of healing and working towards a comeback.

While Tomac’s injury leaves a gap in the 450SX field, the motocross world is left hopeful for his swift recovery, as one of the sport’s most enduring champions looks to return to the track stronger than ever.
