Arizona State athletic director Graham Rossini has publicly expressed optimism about the program’s direction amid growing speculation linking head coach Kenny Dillingham to the vacant Michigan head coaching job. The opening in Ann Arbor follows the controversial conclusion of Sherrone Moore’s tenure, prompting national attention and a growing list of potential candidates.
Among the names connected to Michigan is Dillingham, who has quickly become a sought-after coach after stabilizing and elevating the Sun Devils program. While Dillingham has already attempted to quiet the rumors himself, the speculation is expected to persist until Arizona State finalizes a contract extension.
On Thursday, Rossini addressed the situation directly, confirming that discussions between the university and Dillingham’s representatives are ongoing. Speaking on The Burns & Gambo Show, Rossini described the talks as productive and emphasized that securing Dillingham’s future in Tempe remains a top priority.
Rossini made it clear that the university views Dillingham as central to Arizona State’s continued progress. He highlighted the leadership currently in place and stressed that the administration is fully aligned behind the head coach as negotiations continue.
The athletic director also underscored the broader significance of Dillingham’s leadership, noting the momentum the program has built since his arrival. Rossini called the current moment an exciting one for Arizona State football, reinforcing his belief that Dillingham is the right person to guide the program forward.
Still, the appeal of a powerhouse job like Michigan’s is undeniable. Since taking over in Tempe, Dillingham has overseen a dramatic turnaround. After a 3–9 debut season in 2023, Arizona State has posted 19 total wins over the past two years and is preparing for its third straight bowl appearance, set to face Duke in the Sun Bowl on Dec. 31.
