Texas Tech Reaches 39 Sacks as Big 12 Title Fuels Quarterback S.A.C.K. Donations…

Texas Tech’s newly won Big 12 Championship is creating momentum beyond the football field, as the program’s defensive success continues to fuel donations for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Southwest. With two additional sacks recorded in last Saturday’s 34–7 victory over BYU in Arlington, the Red Raiders have now reached 39 sacks on the season, boosting contributions through the long-standing Quarterback S.A.C.K. initiative.

The first of the two fourth-quarter sacks came with 14:54 remaining, when defensive lineman A.J. Holmes brought down Cougars quarterback Bear Bachmeier for an 18-yard loss. The hit forced a fumble that was quickly recovered by linebacker Romello Height, setting up Texas Tech with prime field position and adding another pledge-triggering play to the charity’s total.

Later in the quarter, with just over four minutes remaining, linebacker David Bailey added another impactful moment. Bailey sacked Bachmeier for a seven-yard loss on BYU’s 31-yard line, again forcing a fumble that Bachmeier was able to recover. Still, the play counted toward the Quarterback S.A.C.K. program, which turns each defensive stop into charitable support.

For more than 25 years, Texas Tech Athletics has partnered with Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Southwest to convert defensive performance into community impact. Each sack throughout the season allows fans to pledge a donation of any chosen amount, helping raise funds for families in need of support during medical crises.

Supporters can still contribute this season by visiting the Quarterback S.A.C.K. website and committing a per-sack donation. With the Red Raiders continuing to pressure opposing quarterbacks at a high rate, every pledge plays a direct role in expanding the program’s reach.

The Ronald McDonald House in Lubbock provides families with a stable, comforting place to stay while their children receive medical care, including newborns in the NICU and young patients undergoing cancer treatment. Additionally, Family Rooms inside Covenant Children’s and UMC Children’s hospitals offer snacks, showers, laundry facilities, and quiet respite for families navigating some of their most difficult moments.
