West Virginia wide receiver Tyshawn Dues has become the latest Mountaineer to announce his departure, revealing Friday that he intends to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.
“With it being in my best interest, I have decided to enter the Transfer Portal,” Dues said in a statement. The freshman did not record any game action for WVU this season.
Head coach Rich Rodriguez noted earlier in the week that roster movement was expected following the team’s season-ending meeting. Rodriguez said each player would undergo exit interviews to determine individual futures, adding that “tough decisions” were coming for both the program and players.
Dues originally committed to former head coach Neal Brown and signed with WVU before Rodriguez’s return to Morgantown. The Mountaineers added seven receivers on the opening day of the early signing period and expect to return veterans Cam Vaughn, Jadey Bray, and Rodney Gallagher III, while also planning to explore portal additions when it opens on Jan. 2.
A native of Hurricane, West Virginia, Dues was a standout at Hurricane High School, posting 1,490 yards and 13 touchdowns over his final two seasons. His departure marks WVU’s second portal entry this week, following freshman linebacker Mike Hastie.
