Four-star tight end and athlete Nick Townsend has committed to the Texas Longhorns, choosing them over Alabama, Texas A&M, and USC.
The Spring, Texas native announced his decision on Monday, declaring his intent to join the Longhorns. Townsend, who is 6’3” and 225 pounds, is ranked within the top 200 but outside the top 100 on all major recruiting sites for the class of 2025. According to On3, Townsend is the No. 7 tight end in his class, trailing only Texas A&M commit Kiotti Armstrong for the position in Texas. Prior to his commitment, 247Sports recruiting analyst Jordan Scruggs had predicted Townsend would choose Texas, indicating confidence in head coach Steve Sarkisian’s recruiting abilities remains strong.
Another 247Sports analyst, Greg Biggins, commented that Townsend “has a tight end frame but runs like a big receiver.”
Townsend also plays defense in high school but is projected to excel as a tight end at the next level. His versatility allows him to line up all over the field, a valuable trait in Sarkisian’s high-powered offense. With Townsend’s commitment, Texas has now secured its eighth four-star and 14th overall player in the class of 2025, joining quarterback KJ Lacey, running back James Simon, and fellow tight end Emaree Winston. Although Sarkisian missed out on top offensive talents like No. 1 wide receiver Dakorien Moore and No. 9 offensive tackle Lamont Rogers in recent recruiting battles, the Longhorns are stabilizing.
Townsend is the third commit in July, and Texas eagerly anticipates commitments from five-star prospects Kaliq Lockett, Michael Terry III, Jaime Ffrench, and Michael Fasusi, all of whom Texas fans hope to see in burnt orange next year.
