The West Virginia Mountaineers have announced the addition of offensive lineman Robby Martin, a transfer from North Carolina State. A native of Huntington, West Virginia, Martin was one of the top prospects in the state for the Class of 2024.
He initially chose NC State over offers from numerous programs, including Penn State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and Mississippi State.
West Virginia had been involved in Martin’s recruitment during his high school career, but the previous coaching staff opted to pursue other options at the time.
Now, under the leadership of new head coach Rich Rodriguez, the Mountaineers have successfully brought the local standout back to his home state.
Martin brings a strong pedigree to West Virginia. During his recruitment, he garnered interest from a wide range of programs, including schools in the ACC, SEC, and Big Ten, which speaks to his potential as a key contributor on the offensive line.
His decision to return to West Virginia provides the Mountaineers with a versatile lineman who has four years of eligibility remaining.
The addition of Martin adds depth and talent to an offensive line that has seen significant reinforcements this offseason. He joins other transfer linemen such as Ty’Kieast Crawford (Arkansas), Walter Young Bear (Tulsa), Wyatt Minor (Youngstown State), Kimo Makane’ole (LSU), and William Reed (Princeton). Together, they form a revamped group designed to strengthen the trenches for the Mountaineers.
Martin’s signing highlights the Mountaineers’ aggressive approach to utilizing the transfer portal to rebuild their roster. The program has emphasized adding players who not only bring skill but also align with the team’s vision under Rodriguez’s second stint as head coach.
As West Virginia continues to integrate these new additions, the coaching staff is optimistic about the team’s future. Martin’s presence on the roster provides the Mountaineers with a long-term option at offensive line, where he will have time to develop and grow into a pivotal role.
This signing is another step forward for West Virginia as they aim to build a competitive squad for the 2025 season. With Martin’s local roots and high upside, fans are eager to see him take the field in Morgantown.
As the Mountaineers finalize their offseason roster, the team’s focus will shift toward preparing for spring training, where Martin and the rest of the transfer class will look to make an immediate impact.
